Liturgical Diversity

I've been realizing recently just how amazingly diverse this campus is.
I know a lot of people think of Franciscan as the charismatic school, but there's really a lot for everyone. Just in the last month, I've attended the Novus Ordo Mass in English and Spanish, a Tridentine Mass, and a Byzantine Divine Liturgy. I've been to two different kinds of chanted liturgy of the hours, and a FOP. Tomorrow morning, I'll be going to Pittsburgh with some friends for another Tridentine Mass, and in the evening, there's a classical Chorale Concert.

Really, attending this school is a great way to learn about yourself on so many levels. It takes experience and experimentation to find your own personal balance of liturgical preferences, and this is just the place to figure it out.

Before I get to real blogging

I found this photo yesterday and had to share!

For those who don't know. That's Milo Ventimiglia, Hayden Panettiere, Jack Coleman, and Adrian Pasdar, all from the cast of Heroes!

Later for the good stuff,

Tridentine Mass talks on mp3

I will be posting a whole bunch of stuff soon, but I will not until I've caught up on sleep. It might not be till the weekend, but it will get done. Never fear!

Until then, here is a link to the mp3 audio of two lectures on the Tridentine Mass that the Dom Geuranger Society sponsored earlier this semester. I only attended the professor panel, which was very good. These are a great overview of some of the issues that have arisen recently concerning the Extraordinary form.

So, hope you enjoy those, and I'll see you later!

Dominus vobiscum,

RUAH!!!

I got back from Catherine's Care tonight to find my door all decked out. It's RUAH week! I was so surprised and excited. This is the time when the whole household gets to have fun with its intents. (in different senses of the word) I'll be describing all this weeks happenings and events in detail as they go, but for now, I have to go to bed. The first thing I have to do is go to 6:30 am Mass!

God bless,

Tridentine Mass

I thought Scott would post about this before I did, but he's too busy pretending to quit blogging, or something, to get around to it, so I win!

As he mentioned and I didn't, the first Tridentine Mass at Franciscan University took place this past Sunday, March 30, at 4:00pm. It was really amazing, especially considering the opposition there was to the idea last semester.

Christ the King Chapel was converted into a more traditional set-up. The Altar was moved back and decorated with long candles, and a long row of kneelers composed a make-shift altar rail.

The Mass lasted almost two whole hours. The Schola choir sang, increasing the sacred atmosphere of the Latin and the high altar.

Overall, I think the Dom Guéranger Society has a lot to be proud of. I will be sure to attend the next Tridentine Mass next month!

God bless,
-Rebekah
