I got posted on the "blog"!

A photo of mine was published on the "blog" of "unnecessary" quotation marks! HERE
Sorry, this is just kind of exciting.
See John, you thought I was crazy for taking that picture, but who's photo is online now?
Anyway,

A short post

You know, the Sojourner and the Cobbler ought to come out for a visit some summer and actually meet Andrea.

Little baby states

Not that this actually says anything about the sizes of the states in question, but we just realized last week that you can see West Virginia from our dorm room window. The can also see the dorm from West Virginia. This is just so different from my everyday experience! (back home, I mean. Here, I look out the window every day.)

God bless,

How lame!

According to the San Diego calendar they sent us in the mail and that I took to school with me,
Espola Rd. is named after Escondido, Poway, and Lakeside. How pathetic is that?

Speaking in English in Spanish class

Nothing good ever comes of it.

The question: Can you say, "I doubted that she came."
(That's just the example)

I don't think you can. I think it should be "she had come" but others assert that it can be said, just in a different context, but we can't figure out which context that would be.

¡Ayúdanos!

Free is good

I've mentioned before that I own a Zune. And I subscribe to the news feed over at zuneboards.com for their interesting news and tips. From time to time they will post good deals on music-related products. I usually ignore most of these, but, as the title of this post says, free is good, so I clicked on a recent post that came up. It's true, there are portable speakers free at buy.com with google checkout! Mine came today and work great. They're even smaller than they looked online, but still fit any mp3 player perfectly inside. The deal is still going on if you want to check it out. I love all the things my google does for me!

Anyway, here I am rocking to Juanes in my intent shirt!

By the way, that turtleneck has been shedding all over my coat and backpack all day!

EDIT: I brought the speakers with me to work this evening (just 'cause they're new and they're fun!) The Beach Boys' song Sloop John B. was brought up, and I was able to whip out my speakers and say, "Oh, I've got that song right here!" and play it. I looked SO geeky! It was awesome!

See ya,

Something I was never any good at

I've never quite figured out how one is meant to go about writing a song.

If you write the words first, you run the risk of making it sound really lame because it goes badly with the music. I'm thinking here specifically about some Mass parts I've heard that just sound pathetically contrived.

If you write the music first, you often end up with bad rhymes, Yoda quotes, and the word "depend" at the end of lines.

You can't win! I guess that's why I stick to what I'm good at.

Your candy or your sanity - you can't have both!

I'm not an idiot. I know an adjective when I see one. And the pronunciation is just all sorts of ludicrous. Apparently there are two stressed syllables in the word, and you can pronounce the (t) if you want to. I think I was better off during lent giving up sweets. (This is a snickers wrapper, by the way.)

Triduum

This week has been full of so many amazing graces. Since I had the blessing to be able to intent at the beginning of Holy Week, all of the beautiful liturgy has taken on even more meaning. Anyway, this God guy is pretty cool.

Last night was the Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord's Supper. It was pretty much a typical, crowded, Fieldhouse Mass, and it didn't feel like it lasted almost two hours at all. Twice through all the verses of "that foot-washing song" was satisfactorily made up for by the fact that I wasn't in the choir and didn't have to sing it, and by the fact that we sang the chant version of Pange Lingua in Latin and had a Eucharistic procession. Then we stayed and kept vigil in the chapel for 1:40, when there was evening prayer at 11:00 pm. It was all beautiful!

This post is also meant to inform you that I'll be out of town for the weekend at my roommate's house, and therefore will probably not be able to update my blog till I get back. But look forward to a surprise when we return!

Until then, God bless and happy Easter!

Palm Sunday

I'm really spoiled. The palms here are all yellow and dry. I hear they don't have any palm trees out here!

The had us sit down for the long gospel in Mass today. Wimps! Fortunately, there were so many people that I had to stand in the back, so I was able to stand for the gospel. :)

Happy Holy Week everyone!

God bless you,
-Rebekah

From the JC

You know, it's exactly because I do have Irish pride that I have trouble with St. Patrick's Day. My Bracken T-shirt feels out of place.

It seems I'm always apologizing...

...for not posting as often as I should. And I really don't have a good excuse this time. Mrs. OBJ's comment the other day reminded me that I never even posted to tell you how the train went.
We got in safely and, amazingly, pretty much on time. We took a taxi into Steubenville, which was a bit awkward.

So, I don't have anything really much due this week or the next, so I'm just enjoying the nicer weather we're starting to enjoy. Yesterday, it was 60° and beautiful. Today, we're not so lucky. It's in the mid-40s and drizzling. But still, it's not snowing and I'm enjoying walking around campus in a hoody.

I'm pretty excited about a few things happening this weekend.

Tonight is the St. Patrick's Day celebration in the JC. Because next week is Holy Week, St. Patrick's day won't be observed by the Church this year. (as far as I understand it) As for all other celebrations, they will have to be held this weekend. So I really don't know what kind of festivities we'll be having, but it could be fun.

Tomorrow is the first home baseball game of the season. I've been looking forward to this for weeks. I love keeping score at baseball games.

So, I guess that's about it. I'll be posting again soon about my weekend.
Until then, God bless,
-Rebekah

I would have posted the following yesterday, but blogger was being wiggy. Enjoy!
<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>

We're back at Panera for the WiFi. I'm going to have so many blog posts to read when I get back to school.

But about that...

There's a blizzard in Ohio apparently. And we're leaving tomorrow afternoon to go back to Steubenville. Looks like the chances are good that our train will be even more delayed than on the way here, but at least we're not driving. But regardless, we could use a few spare prayers that we can get safely from Pittsburgh to the school in 14" of snow. Don't worry, Mom, I'll say the driving prayer! :)

So, let's see...

This morning I get my first ever pedicure. It was good fun and very relaxing. Maybe my toes can keep me cheerful after we leave 60° Virginia.

Yesterday we went to see Mt. Vernon. It's a favorite spot of Mrs. Paul's, and for good reason. The mansion has been kept in good condition, including the ornate fixtures and furniture. (And some beautiful quilts.) We also saw the outbuildings and farm areas. Washington had designed a pretty neat 16-sided threshing barn of which a replica had been built. There's also a very neat museum area in the visitors' center thing. It was just me and Kenny and Mr. Paul, as Mary had to pick that day to feel bad enough to stay at home. We still had a great time, though.

We would have gone to DC if congress had been in session, (I'll be using that sentence in my French paper!) which they decided not to be yesterday, so I didn't get to see Colbert's portrait at the National Portrait Gallery either. Oh well. I don't think I could be nearly as bummed as my dad would be. :)

I think that's just about it. I'll post again Monday to let you know I got in OK. So thanks for the prayers, and I'll be talking to you soon.

God bless,
-Rebekah

Lemonaide and free WiFi

I'm sitting in Panera because the Pauls only have dial-up. It's OK, though. Being disconnected from everything can be good for a person, especially when the only thing one has due next week is a 150-word essay for French on "What did you do for Spring break?"

So I'm in Manasas, VA again. Mary's family is too sweet and they've taken me in again, this time for a week. The virus that's been going around finally caught up with Mary, and she's feeling a little under the weather, but not quite enough to keep her off her feet. And a relaxing week was just what I needed anyway.

We got up at 4 am Saturday to get to the Amtrak station. It took us 13.5 hours to get all the way to Manasas. We went to a really cool used book store yesterday where I finally broke down and bought the Heroes Season 1 7-disk DVD set. :) I'm going to teach Mrs. Paul how to knit. And we'll probably go into DC on Wednesday or Thursday to try to see congress.

Sorry I'm rushing through this. I'm racing the poor battery life on my laptop.

Anyway.
Hope all my friends from school are enjoying a great spring break. See you Monday.
Hope all my friends back home are enjoying their weather, even though it's pretty warm in Virginia. (it's up in the 60s!)

God bless you all!
-Rebekah
